Case Study

Coco Key Water Park
at The Sheraton Ferncroft

Client:

Horizon Development

Description:

The Sheraton Ferncroft is a full service 379 room luxury hotel and resort that was constructed in the 1970s. Horizon Development invested $50 million into the facility, renovating the existing hotel and introducing a new 50,000 sq.ft. indoor water park. Meridian was instrumental in gaining local town approvals which were complicated by the fact that the existing building is bisected by the Danvers/Middleton town line. Through the proposed use of rain water harvesting, low maintenance landscaping and internal water saving features (such as low flow plumbing fixtures, pool filters, and laundry facilities) Meridian was able to propose a design that reduced the overall water consumption, a difficult task considering that the new facility is a water park. Given that the facility is located within Ipswich River Watershed Basin (one of the most stressed rivers in the United States), these water saving features were critical to the successful acquisition of permits and long-term health of the river.
