Case Study

Conoco Phillips Los Angeles Refinery
New 24" Flare Header,
ARV Closed System Project

Client:

Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc.

Description:

Meridian Associates provided 3D Laser Scanning for the Conoco Phillips Los Angeles, Carson Refinery for the ARV Closed System Project. Reacting to fast track project requirements, a full service Laser Scan and Survey team was rapidly mobilized to the field.

The team collected over 300 scans from elevated positions along and above pip racks. The scanning started at a flare stack and continued to an up-stream process unit and adjacent structure. Additional scans were captured in and around the multi-level structure.

Project benefits: The project deliverable was a complete Laser Scan Database Model. The laser scan model is used in support of plant design efforts for the plant upgrade project. The data is used for conceptual design, design verification and interference detection.

The Z+F LFM Server application provides a very powerful tool to work with 3D Laser scanning data. It is the optimum tool for handling large point cloud data sets of high resolution scans. The database can be partitioned into areas of interest to manage spate units or work zones. In addition, the LFM Server Volume Manager provides the ability to group and classify information into different categories such as demolition or removal.
