Railroad Tunnel and Bridge

Using 3D laser scanning technology, interior surface features of the tunnel, as well as adjacent exterior limitations to design modifications such as bridges, rails, and grade crossing of Mill Street were collected.

The Laser scan data was provided to the client for their use and information. Cross sections of the digital scan data were provided at 20 foot intervals. Laser scan data was also utilized to assess clash detection and surficial interference with locomotives and other railway cars. A profile through the centerline of the rail was also prepared to analyze the required transition at the grade crossing and bridge. As-built detail was captured to assess clearance envelope and to lower truck elevations to permit the transportation of larger freight cars.
