CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. – Urban Green Technologies LLC (“UGT”) a utility-scale solar developer, today announced that it has received all necessary permits for its 6MW project on the privately owned and now closed Shaffer landfill in Billerica, Massachusetts. Shaffer Landfill is a capped landfill located on approximately 100 acres of land in Billerica, Massachusetts which is also known as the Iron Horse Superfund site. UGT is developing the largest solar development on a capped landfill to date in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The project has the strong support of the property owners, the Town of Billerica, the State of MA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), U.S. EPA and National Grid, the utility that services the site. This project repurposes contaminated land for the benefit of the environment and local community. The Town of Billerica will benefit greatly from discounted Net Metering Credits as well as increased tax revenue.

This has been a team effort from day one as it was the first solar development on a landfill that is also a Superfund site. UGT worked in collaboration with:
